Storytelling has never been more important when trying to separate your brand from the pack. Consumers have a myriad of choices at their fingertips and grabbing their attention is tougher than ever. Below is a case study of the brand storytelling work I have done for Horse Soldier Bourbon. While my skillset includes producing, directing, and editing, at my core I am a storyteller, and I believe every brand has a story to tell. 1 • Horse Soldier Bourbon entrusted me with telling their story from day one. Embedded with the team, I captured every significant event and wove them into what would become The Horse Soldier Brand Story.

2 • The Horse Soldier Bourbon Bottle is an integral part of the their brand story. With molds crafted from World Trade Center steel, the bottle is an ode to the founder’s special forces careers. I traveled to West Virginia and Indiana to bring that story to life.

3 • The Horse Soldier Bourbon motto, Live Legendary, is more than words. Every year the team goes on an adventure to demonstrate they actually live it. To date I have documented the team’s adventures in Normandy, Cuba, Mexico, Saipan, and The Rubicon Trail.

 

4 • As the Horse Soldier Brand grew, so did the need for a more comprehensive, condensed version of their brand story. I was tasked with conceiving, writing, producing, directing, and editing a concise, compelling brand video for their website and growing YouTube channel.

5 • In 2020, Horse Soldier Bourbon announced plans to open a $200 million distillery in Somerset, Kentucky. I worked with the architecture firm to create a video that not only revealed this huge endeavor, but also captured the soul of the company and why this expansion was so important to them.

6 • The official groundbreaking for Horse Soldier Farms occurred on October 19th, 2021, and I was there with my camera to document the momentous event. My deep understanding of the Horse Soldier Bourbon brand and all the members of the team, allowed me to uniquely capture the spirit of the day in a very personal way.

 

7 • While brand storytelling is important, one can never lose sight of the fact that the main objective of telling the story is to promote a product and drive sales. To that end, my advertising background came in handy while writing, directing and editing a series of videos for Horse Soldier Bourbon directed at sales reps and distributors.

8 • As the Horse Soldier Bourbon brand has grown, so too has its reliance on social media to spread the word. My past experience in broadcast commercial production proved to be an asset as I became proficient at telling the Horse Soldier brand story in short-form on various social media platforms.

9 • The Horse Soldier Bourbon brand story is one of perseverance, integrity, and honor. And while their story is certainly unique, I believe every brand has the ability to capitalize on their story. All it takes is a willingness to share and, more importantly, the right person to tell it.
